A head-on crash involving three vehicles on Bridge Hill at Ky. 22 during rush hour Friday left four people injured.
According to police, a 2005 Ford F-150 driven by Arvill Duncan Jr. of Smithfield, started to slide in a curve on the westbound side of the bridge, striking a 1992 Nissan Sentra driven by Joseph A. Wells of Louisville about 5 p.m.
Duncan’s vehicle overturned twice before coming to rest in a field on the north side of Ky. 22. Duncan, 64, and Geneava J. Duncan, 60, escaped the vehicle prior to arrival of first responders.
Crews removed Wells, 47, from the Nissan using a mechanical device and he was air-lited to University Hospital in Louisville. His passengers, 19-year-old Janie Wells, 16-year-old Julie Wells and 17-year-old Matthew V. Heuser – all of Louisville – went to University Hospital by ambulance. Emergency workers found Janie Wells unconscious after the crash.
A third vehicle involved in the crash, a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Thomas W. Dewitt of Crestwood, collided with the right side of the Nissan. Dewitt was not injured in the crash.
Police cited the wet roadway and slippery surface on Ky. 22 as factors in the crash.
Ky. 22 reopened about 6:30 p.m.
