The Oldham County Hazardous Materials Response Team is asking area businesses for support. The team, which has certified 25 EMS and firefighters in Oldham County as haz-mat technicians, will respond to hazardous materials incidents primarily in Oldham County, but as part of the Region 6 organization, may respond to a number of areas, including Jefferson, Henry and Shelby counties. “Many hazardous materials teams around the country are supported by local businesses that provide financial or in-kind donations,” Chief Edward Turner said. “In order to ensure the safety of our team members and the community, it is vital that we invest in solid supplies and equipment to handle any number of hazardous materials incidents.” The haz-mat team is asking any businesses or individuals interested in supporting the team to contact Kevin Parker at 639-5050. The team recently selected its first round of command officers:• Chief, Edward Turner, South Oldham Fire Department;• Command officer, Aaron Foust, La Grange Fire and Rescue Department;• Safety/medical officer, Stuart Crawford, Oldham County EMS• Training officers, Steve Netherton, South Oldham Fire Department John Fekete, South Oldham Fire Department.The Oldham County HazMat Team is comprised of Fire, EMS and EMA volunteers and officials in Oldham County. All team members are certified hazardous materials technicians and serve a multi-county region in the state of Kentucky, with primary initial-response in Oldham County.
