Residents may need to re-register

The county’s emergency notification system is changing, and users of the current system may need to sign up again for the new service.

Messages about emergency events will now be sent by CodeRED, who recently acquired all of One Call Now’s government clients.

According to Kevin Nuss, emergency management director, old contacts for the system have been transferred, but he advises residents to re-register to ensure their information is in the system and up-to-date.

Residents can choose from different delivery options, including email and text messages, and which notifications they prefer.

There is an option to receive only tornado warnings, for example.

The new service also offers a mobile alert app that provides location-based alerts using GPS.

The app provides an additional method to communication messages not only to local residents but to those traveling in the area, Nuss said.

“Once you sign up, if you travel to another CodeRED community, you will be able to access those alerts as well,” Nuss said.
