Coulson wins Animal Attraction contest

Louisville artist, Veronica Coulston’s “My Cat”, oil on canvas won 1st Place at the Arts Association of Oldham County’s 5th annual Animal Attraction Show at Gallery 104 in La Grange. Show judge, Richard Luce of Crestwood described Coulston’s piece as “a very nice oil painting with good technical quality, good design and pleasant to look at.”

Other winners include: 2nd Place- “My Favorite Old Boy” photography by Janice Lukenbill, 3rd Place-”Game Face” Prismacolor pencil and acrylic by Rickelle Nelson of Louisville, Honorable Mentions went to Rickelle Nelson, Tom Kinney of Westport and Kathy Hunter of Sellersburg, Ind.

Kathy Dowling, Executive Director, Arts Association of Oldham County (AAOC) and curator, Gallery 104, describes Animal Attraction as one of the most popular and fun shows. Dowling states that this year, thirty three artists submitted seventy five pieces of animal art in a wide variety of media. Dowling reports that AAOC shows are open to any artist willing to jury in and that she is excited that artists are now coming from even further distances to participate. She describes Jim Cheski, Animal Attraction show chair, as instrumental in facilitating the success of this show with managing a volunteer support team, sponsorship and awards reception activities. Ziggy, the Dalmatian mascot from the Woofery pet specialty shop in La Grange, helped greet guests at the awards reception on March 27.

Animal Attraction is sponsored by La Grange Animal Hospital, Messer Construction, Bedford Bank & Loan,. Animal Attraction Show runs through May 10.
