Free tax services
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program will be providing free tax preparation to people over 60 years of age and families with household incomes under $50,000. The program is hosted by HJW Career and Financial Literacy Institute, Inc., and Metro United Way. All returns will be prepared by IRS certified volunteer preparers. Services will be offered at three locations. HJW Career and Financial Literacy Institute, Inc. at 330 Main St., Shelbyville on Mondays and Wednesdays from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oldham County Health Department beginning on Feb. 4 on Tuesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Oldham County Public Library, beginning on Feb. 6, on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. To make an appointment call (502) 647-3072.
Proverbs 27:17 (NIV) says “As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.” The next Ironman Luncheon will be 11:45 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the dining hall at the Kavenaugh Conference and Retreat Center, 7505 Kavenaugh Road, Crestwood on Feb. 13.
The Ironman Luncheon is an interdenominational Christian men’s program. The cost is $10. Please contact Don Helton at 243-9998 NO LATER THAN noon, Feb. 10 to register/cancel.

KSP traveling advice
With the recent snow, ice and extremely low temperatures, the Kentucky State Police (KSP) is requesting travelers to observe for potentially stranded motorists. If you see or suspect that someone is stranded, please call 911 or contact the Kentucky State Police at 1-800-222-5555.
KSP asks citizens to refrain from contacting local posts about current road conditions. Instead they should call 1-866-737-3767 (#511 from cellular phone) or utilize www.511.ky.gov.
Also, KSP will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints in the counties of Oldham, Trimble, Henry, Owen, Carroll and Gallatin during the period of Feb. 10 - 24.
