Veterans Day Program

Oldham County Post #39 of the American Legion will host a Veterans Day program on Monday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. at the John Black Community Center in Buckner. The entire community is invited to participate in this recognition of our veterans.

Veterans Eat Free

As a special salute to freedom, all veterans and military will eat free on Nov. 11 at Ponderosa Steakhouse, 816 South Hwy. 53 in La Grange. Free meals will be served for military personnel from 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Marriage Workshop

An Experiencing Forgiveness in Marriage workshop will be offered on Nov. 9 at 9:30 a.m. at Baptist Health-Louisville, 4000 Kresge Way in Louisville. The Marriage Education and Resource Center (MERCY) will be offering this workshop.  Michael Taylor, LMFT, will be the presenter.  Registration is requested, but not required.  There is no cost, but donations are appreciated. Appointments

Gov. Beshear has appointed the following member to the Kentucky Emergency Response Commission:

 C. Robert “Bob” Smith, of Prospect, is vice president at UPS Airline Security. He represents business and industry. The appointment replaces James A. Richey, whose term has expired. Smith shall serve for a term expiring April 17, 2015.

 Gov. Beshear has appointed the following member to the Board of Directors of the Louisville Arena Authority:

   Alice K. Houston, of Prospect, is the owner of Houston-Johnson Inc.

Artist in show

Crestwood resident Marie-Elena Ottman will be participating in the first ever Open Studio Weekend.

 Louisville Visual Arts Association and the University of Louisville Announce “Open Studio Weekend.”  

Open Studio Weekend provides a focused opportunity for art patrons and art lovers of all ages to visit nearly 70 local artist’s studios. Much like a home and garden tour, this will be a ticketed event.

A select group of nearly seventy of Louisville Metro’s top artists will open their studios to the public on Saturday, Nov. 9 and Sunday, Nov. 10. Proceeds from the weekend will help fund $50,000 for scholarships to the Hite Art Institute’s Mary Spencer Nay Scholarship and the LVAA’s Children’s Fine Art Classes (CFAC) Program.

Open Studio Weekend dates are: Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, 11 a.m. -- 5 p.m.

Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, 12 p.m. -- 5 p.m.

 The kickoff celebration will be Friday, Nov. 8 at the Cressman Center, 100 East Main Street, 7--9 p.m.

Thursday, Nov. 7 - An “All about Labor and Anesthesia” prenatal class will be from 7-8 p.m. at Baptist Health La Grange. Learn about the signs and symptoms of labor, stages of labor, pain management during labor (including anesthesia options, their benefits and risks), the process of delivery, and the recovery period. Tuesday, Nov. 12 - A “Breastfeeding Your Newborn” class will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Baptist Health La Grange. Tuesday, Nov. 19 - The Living Well with Diabetes support group will meet at 7 p.m. at Baptist Health La Grange. Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist Lisa Arvin, RD, LD, will discuss “Meal Planning, Carbohydrate Counting and Preparation of Diabetes-Friendly Recipies.” The meeting will also feature an open forum.  Free.
