The Oldham County girls’ cross country team traveled to North Carolina from Sept. 28-30, claiming a No. 1 overall finish in their race on the North Carolina state meet course.
Caroline Grogan led the Colonels from the start and never let up, setting a new record — both for herself and for Oldham County High School — while winning the race in 18:47. Right behind her in second, third, fourth, and eighth were Kati Heil (19:37), Haley Mullins (19:41), Hannah Mullins (19:43) and Chelsea Bear (20:09). Rounding out the top seven were Mary Rumsey (20:41) and Briana Vance (20:55).
For the junior varsity girls’ team, Casey Vandenbark was the leader with a sixth-place finish in a field of nearly 300 runners with a time of 20:19. She was followed by Sammy Griffin (21:26), Elizabeth Riopell (22:22), Melissa Arvidson (22:24), Summer Wheeler (22:41), Lacy Walters (23:06) and Kalli Heil (24:57). As a team, they finished 11th out of 40.
For the boys, who finished seventh out of 23 teams, Tyler Lega was the top finisher with a time of 17:09, while Chris French and Dylan Romero finished back-to-back in 46th and 47th place with times of 18:02 and 18:04.
Josh Hancock was the top finisher of the junior varsity boys, clocking in with a time of 20:11 for 71st place with the third team.
As a whole, Oldham County runners set 19 personal records.
The teams’ next race will be the South Oldham Dragon Invitational at Oldham County High School on Oct. 13.
