College 101 teaches students and parents

The University of Louisville is offering a new class: College 101, a college planning workshop for middle school students and their parents and guardians.It is co-hosted by the university’s Office of Community Engagement and GEAR UP Kentucky – Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs. GEAR UP is a federal initiative to prepare students for college.College 101 provides the opportunity for parents or guardians to learn how to be involved with planning and preparing their middle school child for high school and college.College 101 will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 20 in UofL’s Student Activities Center. Breakfast and lunch are provided.There will be a keynote speaker and campus tour as well as information on paying for college, study skills and expectations for college preparedness.College 101 is a free event, but registration is requested by Monday.
