City spending under fire in La Grange

-A A +A
By Laura Hagan

Council members continue to question spending by employees in the La Grange mayor’s office after receipts show more than $680 in purchases from home-shopping giant QVC in December.  During a city council meeting in March, council members asked for better explanation about city bills than the mayor’s office currently provides – including details about purchases from QVC, meals at local restaurants and gifts of flowers and food for funerals.  At the time, La Grange Mayor Elsie Carter said the council members’ requests would require extra paperwork and staff time – possibly additional staffing. The Oldham Era has filed requests for copies of several documents that show the items purchased and continue to question the city’s purpose for those purchases.  So far, The Oldham Era has learned that the city’s payments to QVC funded the purchase of a GPS device and digital camera, as well as cables, cords and other accessories for the items. The next meeting of the La Grange City Council is 6 p.m. Monday in the fiscal court room.   E-mail us about this story at: lhagan@oldhamera.com
