Commissioners approved the North Oldham Fire Department’s plan for a 250-foot telecommunications tower Tuesday. The application was originally discussed at a hearing in November, but commissioners requested a study regarding the line of sight from the tower and a location analysis.Joe Schoenbaechler, a member of the Board of Trustees for the North Oldham Fire Department, presented information concerning the areas that were covered by the existing scenario and by the proposed plan.Under the existing scenario, Schoenbaechler said 76 percent of the 3,945 addresses in NOFD’s fire district are covered. A 250-foot tower increases coverage to 89 percent of the district, he said.Neighbors urged commissioners to suggest a tower adjacent to the Goshen Gators water tank, and also discussed a two-tower alternative. The tower is planned for 1721 S. Ky. 1793 in Goshen.
