A Crestwood woman is dead and one man is injured after a vehicle traveling on the Ky. 329 bypass Friday struck the couple in the roadway. Police responded to an injury accident involving two pedestrians about 9:20 p.m. Friday on the bypass – also known as Veterans Memorial Parkway – near Madison Park Condominiums.  According to police, a 2002 Jeep traveling toward Interstate 71 struck 52-year-old Claudia Duffy and 56-year-old James Martel, both of Crestwood, as the couple attempted to cross the four-lane highway.  Emergency crews transported the pair to University Hospital in Louisville for treatment, where Duffy died about 2 a.m. Saturday.  Martel is listed in serious but stable condition at University Hospital.  The driver of the Jeep, 19-year-old Samuel Mattingly of Louisville, and his unidentified passenger, were not injured in the crash. Mattingly does not face charges for his involvement in the crash. Police said Monday they don’t believe the crash is a result of speeding or driving under the influence.  Mattingly tried to prevent the collision by switching lanes to avoid the couple, police said.  Witnesses told police the couple dined at Arbor Ridge Vine and Grill just before the crash, and crossed the bypass as they walked to their condo in Madison Park.  Police said streetlights outside Madison Park that normally illuminate the entrance have been out of service for several weeks, and the entrance was dark at the time of the crash.  The crash remains under investigation.  Anyone with information related to the crash or those who observed two pedestrians walking on the bypass Friday evening is asked to contact Oldham County Police Sgt. Jim Laytham at 222-1300 ext. 148.   E-mail us about this story at: editor@oldhamera.com
