Bridgmohan to ride in Belmont

An Oldham County resident will be aiming to deny California Chrome the Triple Crown Saturday.

Goshen’s Shaun Bridgmohan will be aboard Commanding Curve in the Belmont Stakes, the last leg of the Triple Crown. Post time is 6:52 p.m., with the race broadcast on NBC.

Commanding Curve finished second under Bridgmohan behind California Chrome last month in the Kentucky Derby.

The Dallas Stewart-trained colt is owned by West Point Thoroughbreds. He ran a half-mile in 47 1/5 seconds Sunday at Belmont Park in his last workout.

California Chrome went on to win the Preakness Stakes two weeks after the Derby. Should he win the Belmont, he’d become the first horse to take all three since Affirmed in 1978.

Bridgmohan comes into the race with momentum after winning the Grade I American Oaks aboard Room Service on Saturday at Santa Anita.
