North Oldham boys lacrosse coach Ryan Smith has left to take the same job at Kentucky Country Day, North athletic director Alan Yanke confirmed to The Era last week.
Smith coached the Mustangs for four seasons, winning the District 4 title every year but this one.
Smith informed his team May 15 that he was going to coach the Bearcats, he said.
“I have nothing but good things to say about North Oldham,” Smith said. “It’s been an incredible opportunity.”
The former Trinity and Bellarmine University lacrosse player said he especially wanted to thank program founder and current assistant coach Bill Roberts for his contributions to the Mustang program.
Smith works for True Lacrosse, an organization that promotes lacrosse through club teams and clinics, among other programs.
KCD’s facilities are well-suited for his purposes with that job, he said.
A search for Smith’s replacement has begun, Yanke said.
“He has done a fantastic job at North building the lacrosse program and we are sad to see him leave but understand what he wants to do with his career and the opportunities he has,” Yanke said.
