Blasting continues on Highway 42

The East End Bridge project, which will connect the Gene Snyder Freeway with Utica, Ind. finally got underway this summer. Eventually, the bridge will allow travelers to cross the Ohio River and access Interstate 65 or Interstate 71 without having to drive through Louisville.

Before completion though, construction crews will be shutting down parts of Gene Snyder as well as U.S. 42 daily in order to do some blasting. The Gene Snyder will have to be extended to the river, approximately a 1.5 mile addition.

Instead of putting a traffic signal at the intersection of Gene Snyder and U.S. 42, road crews will be building a tunnel which will divert Gene Snyder passengers underneath U.S. 42 which should prevent any major backups.

The blasting will be a daily occurrence this week, with crews starting at 1:30pm every day. Traffic both ways on the Gene Snyder and U.S. 42 will be stopped five to 20 minutes before the blasting begins.
