Following is information regarding maternity events and classes sponsored by Baptist Health La Grange during August and September. Registration is required for all classes by calling 502-222-3617 (toll-free at 888-222-8071) or online at Baptist HealthLaGrange.com. Classes are free unless otherwise noted.
A “Healthy Journey for Two” class will be offered on Tuesday, Aug. 24 from 6-8 p.m. The class discusses the impact of tobacco, alcohol and medications (both over-the-counter and prescription) on the developing baby. This fun and informative “baby shower” is free and includes games, prizes and refreshments.
An “All About Labor and Anesthesia” class will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 4. Learn about the signs and symptoms of labor, stages of labor, pain management during labor (including anesthesia options, their benefits and risks), the process of delivery, and the recovery period. Participants will view a video on the actual birth process. This class is recommended anytime during your pregnancy. A tour of the Women’s Center is available upon request after the class.
A “Breastfeeding Your Newborn” class will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 9. Learn tips regarding latching-on and positioning, the advantages of breastfeeding and meeting your little one’s nutritional needs. This class is recommended during the last few months of your pregnancy.
A “Postpartum and Newborn Care” class will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16. The class provides information for the new mom on self-care after delivery and information for the new parent on taking care of their newborn. Tips on bathing, diapering, taking temperatures, when to call the doctor, immunizations, feedings, and follow-up care for mom and baby will be discussed. This class is recommended during the last few months of your pregnancy.
Sibling Class will be held on Thursday, Sept. 25 from 7-8 p.m. This class is for soon-to-be big brothers and sisters, ages 3 to 11. Parents remain with their children during a visit to the nursery and a special video. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite doll or stuffed animal.
