Hosting Ballard on Friday night, the Oldham County Colonels nearly pulled off a big win before narrowly falling 21-14 to the Bruins.
Oldham County struck first in the first quarter as running back Chris Caudill ripped off an 80-yard run on the game’s opening drive to go up 7-0.
From there, Ballard scored 21 unanswered points in the second quarter, including a touchdown with :27.5 left in the first half to enter the break up 21-7.
The Colonels a final move came late in the fourth quarter after a missed field goal from Ballard set up the Colonels on the their own 20-yard line.
Jacob Taylor cut the lead to21-14 with 2:07 left to play but that’s far as OC would get as the ensuing onside kick was recovered by Ballard, who then ran out the clock.
Chris Caudill was the leading rusher for the Colonels with 171 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Jacob Taylor added 119 yards and a touchdown on 23 touches as well.
Next week, Oldham County travels to Jeffersontown for a 7;30 p.m. showdown with the Chargers.
