Athletes win Special Olympic medals

Two Oldham County athletes excelled at the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games in Mercer County, N.J., last week.

Goshen’s Jesse Pennington struck gold in the team bocce event, winning alongside teammate Michael Willard.

Pennington and Willard beat Maryland 12-7 in the opening match before beating Pennsylvania 13-5 to claim gold.

Then Prospect’s Tee Salinas and his father, Tony, took silver in the golf competition.

Salinas and his father shot two straight 51’s in the 9-hole unified alternate shot event to finish second.
