Athlete of the Week: Sydney Jones

Name: Sydney Jones.
School: South Oldham Middle School.
Sport: Basketball.
Postition: Guard/forward.
Age: 13.
Hometown: Crestwood.
Parents: Joyce and Keith Jones.
Accomplishments: An eighth grader at South Oldham Middle School, Jones helped the Lady Dragons to a second place finish in the Mid-Bluegrass Conference tourney this season as a starting guard.
Jones also played with the South Oldham High School freshmen team for the second time this year at the close of the middle school season.
Jones comes from a basketball family, both of her parents are assistant coaches at SOHS and her older sister Lauren, is the school’s all-time leading scorer and was the leading scorer for Bellarmine University this season. Another sister, Megan, also played at SOMS.
“I guess I was probably meant to be a basketball player,” Jones said. “It is my favorite. Lauren shoots with me all the time and I go to all her games. She’s my inspiration.”
Other sports: Jones played volleyball for the first time this year and helped SOMS win the conference title.
School: A straight A student, Jones said social studies is her favorite subject.
Other activities: Jones is a member of the SOMS choir and the yearbook staff. In her spare time she likes to read and said the “Hunger Games” is her favorite series of books.
