School: South Oldham Middle School

Age: 11

Hometown: Pewee Valley

Team: Oldham County Thoroughbreds

History: Rowland has been playing soccer since she was four and started with the Thoroughbreds on an Under-9 team. She has two brothers, Marshall and Travis who are members of the South Oldham High School soccer team.

Accomplishments: Battling through a torn meniscus in her knee, Rowland was one of the heroes of the Under-11 Thoroughbreds’ drive to the state championship this spring in Bowling Green.

Rowland entered the championship game late in the second overtime and with 30 seconds to play scored the winning goal in a 1-0 win.

She had been inserted into the game by Coach Joe Wisdom to be eligible for use in case the game went to penalty kicks.

“I wasn’t just going to stand there and not do anything,” Rowland said. “I wanted to do something before the other team did it to us.”

Favorite thing about soccer: I like being a forward because you get to dribble the ball a lot, but mainly just being able to play the game is the best.”

Other sports: Rowland plays basketball on a select AAU team at the Mid-America sports complex.
