By Mickey Patterson

Team: North Oldham Little League Rookie division Diamondbacks.

Age: 8.

Accomplishments: Wynder recently won the local and regional Aquafina Water Pitch, Hit and Run competition sponsored by Major League Baseball.

He competed at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati against other local and regional winners where he won first place and narrowly missed a chance to compete at this year’s major league all-star game at Yankee Stadium.

“I just felt like I was back here,” Wynder said of Great American. “It was before the game and nobody was there yet.”

In the local competition Wynder was able to overcome the rain and was judged in the gymnasium at Immaculate Conception Church next to the North Oldham Little League complex. In the competition, players are judged on throwing strikes to a designated zone, hitting a ball from stationery tee for distance and accuracy and on a timed run from second base to home plate.

Wynder and the other regional age-group winners were honored before a Cincinnati Reds vs. world champion Boston Red Sox game and got to meet some of the players and walk through the dugout.

Favorite team: Boston Red Sox.

Favorite player: Derek Jeter, New York Yankees

“He plays shortstop just like I do.”

Other sports: Soccer, basketball and he will attend his first tennis camp next week.
