Athlete of the Week: Griffin Snyder

Parents: Dean and Tara Snyder
Accomplishments: Snyder, a fifth grader at Liberty Elementary is a standout performer in three sports. This winter he is playing basketball with the Oldham County Stars club team and has been moved up to compete with the sixth and seventh graders. A forward/center, Snyder has a basketball bloodline. His uncle Nathan Winters was a starting forward on a regional finalist Oldham County High School team and another uncle, Ben Winters, also played for the Colonels.
Other Sports: Snyder also competes in baseball and cross country. He was a member of the North Oldham Little League 10-year-old all-stars who won the state title. He was also top pitcher and catcher for his regular season team, the Dodgers before moving into post-season play.  Snyder also ran cross country for Liberty this fall.
“Right now cross country or basketball is my favorite sport, Snyder said. “But I like playing all three.”
School: Snyder is an A student. He is a member of the Liberty Academic team and also a member of the Battle of the Books team where competitors are given quotes and must identify the book it is from.
An avid reader when he is not playing sports, Snyder likes to read “about anything,” but said the Harry Potter series is his favorite.
