Accomplishments: A seventh-grader at Oldham County Middle School, Skinner is one of several solid, young swimmers competing for the Oldham County High School varsity in this weekend's state swimming championship.
Skinner will compete in her strongest event, the 100-yard backstroke, after taking 11th place in the regional meet with a time of 1:02.94.
The backstroke was not always her favorite.
"I didn't like it at first because I was always scared I was going to hit my head," Skinner said.
Skinner will also compete for OCHS in the 200-yard medley relay and the 400-yard freestyle relay. She helped both of those teams to a seventh place finish in the regional meet.
Skinner comes from a swimming family. Her brother, CJ, is a star for the OCHS boys' program and her older sister, Amanda, was a standout for the Lady Colonels before graduating last year.
She started swimming five years ago for the Oldham County Piranhas and now swims for the Shelbyville Sharks.
School: An A and B student, Skinner said language arts is her favorite class because of the reading.
"I like reading the most, when I am reading I am off in my own little world," Skinner said.
Among her favorite books are the Harry Potter series.
Other activities: Skinner is a member of the choir and the Beta Club at OCMS.
