Athlete of the Week: Emma Brazeau

Name: Emma Brazeau.
School: North Oldham Middle School.
Sport: Swimming.
Events: 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard medley relay and 400-yard freestyle relay.
Age: 13.
Hometown: Prospect.
Parents: Fran Durivage and Gerry Brazeau.
Accomplishments: An eighth grader at North Oldham Middle School, Brazeau is a rising star for the North Oldham High School swimming program. She recently competed in the state meet for the Lady Mustangs as a member of the 400-yard freestyle relay team that finished 12th in the state and the 200-yard medley relay team that finished 13th in the state. She also competed in the 100-yard breaststroke. Brazeau holds or is a part of seven school records that were set this season by a talented young group of swimmers for the Lady Mustangs. She also swims the 100-yard backstroke for NOHS.
In this year’s regional meet, Brazeau was 14th in the 200-yard IM and 10th in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Brazeau started her varsity career as a seventh-grader. She started her swimming career at age 5 for the Glen Oaks Country Club team and swims for the Louisville Tritons program in the off season.
“My mom wanted me to learn to swim because it’s something you can do your whole life and I really liked it from the start,” Brazeau said.
