Junior wrestling: Nate Wheeler

Name: Nate Wheeler. School: Crestwood Elementary School. Sport: Wrestling.  Age: 8. Hometown: Crestwood. Team: South Oldham Junior Wrestling Club. Accomplishments: Wheeler wrestles at 57 pounds for the emerging South Oldham junior program, one of the fastest growing junior clubs in the state. He was a regional champion last year. He also finished third in the state meet. Wheeler has continued to win. This year he has won third place at two tournaments in Ohio. He also took third place in a tournament in Evansville. In his second year in competitive wrestling, he is a threat to win a regional title and possibly a state championship in the 7-8 year-old division in the next two weeks. His father, Randy Wheeler, is the head coach of the South junior team and also helps with the SOHS varsity program and Wheeler said he enjoys having his dad as his coach. School: He enjoys all of his school subjects and said his favorite class is physical education. “We do real exercises in there and it helps out with my wrestling,” Wheeler said.  Other activities: Wheeler practices four days a week with the program. When not wrestling he enjoys playing basketball in his driveway with his dad. He said he plays a lot of  football and baseball with his friends in the neighborhood on a regular basis. Wrestling, however, is his favorite sport. “I just get to be aggressive,” Wheeler said. “I like to do the shooting and then get a guy down and pin him.”
