Name: Maddie Waits. School: North Oldham Middle School. Sport: Tennis. Age: 12. Hometown: Goshen. Accomplishments: Waits, a sixth-grader at North Oldham Middle School, has moved into the regular rotation as a member of the defending regional champion North Oldham High School girls’ tennis team. Waits has accepted a big role with the Lady Mustangs. She has been paired with four-time regional doubles champion Rachel Wurster. The pair are the No. 1 doubles team for NOHS and have won both of their matches together to date.  Waits, who began playing tennis four years ago, enjoys doubles. “It’s definitely my favorite,” Waits said. “I like having someone with me on the court.” Waits also plays a busy summer schedule on the junior tourney circuit. She said her forehand is her best shot and she needs to get better with her play around the net. “I like playing high school, but it’s harder than I thought it would be,” Waits said. “In high school, the girls volley a lot more and are a lot more aggressive around the net.” School: An A and B student, Waits said language arts is her favorite subject. She enjoys writing and wants to work with kids in her career someday. Hobbies: Waits is an avid reader. Her favorite author is Nicholas Sparks. Other activities:  Waits is a member of the Pep Club at NOMS. What the coach says: ”Maddie is going to make a big difference for us on the court this season, and for a long time to come we hope,” NOHS coach Todd Arterburn said. “Even though she is 12, she is a very experienced player and has already moved into our regular lineup.”
