Name: Steven Votaw.

School: Liberty Elementary School.

Sport: Baseball.

Age: 7.

Position: Shortstop.

Hometown: La Grange.

Team: The Rookie Division Orioles in the North Oldham Little League.

Accomplishments: Votaw helped the Orioles to their first win of the season Saturday with a 15-6 victory over the Nationals. He went three for four at the plate with two triples and had several strong defensive plays.

Other sports: Votaw also plays football as a cornerback for the Chiefs in the Oldham County Youth Football League and plays basketball in the Oldham County Parks and Recreation league. Basketball is his favorite.

“Basketball is my favorite and the one I am the best at because I get more practice in it than anything else,” Votaw said.

Votaw comes by his athletic ability honestly. His father, Mark, was a standout basketball and baseball player at South Oldham and Oldham County high schools and went on to play college baseball. His mother, the former Cindy Nay, was a starting guard for the Oldham County Lady Colonels during her high school days.

Favorite food: While he “really likes” spaghetti, Votaw said his favorite food is Goldenrod, a secret family sauce recipe served over toast for breakfast.

Other activities: Votaw is “always outside” playing sports when the weather allows usually honing his basketball or football skills with his dad and neighborhood buddies. When not outside, he enjoys playing Wii bowling and Minesweeper.
