 Softball: Rheagan Riggs

Name: Rheagan Riggs School: North Oldham Middle School. Sport: Softball. Position: Third base. Age: 14. Hometown: Goshen. Accomplishments: Since moving to Oldham County from Birmingham, Ala. this fall, Riggs has been anticipating softball season. As a seventh-grader, she is expected to play a key role the Lady Mustangs’ JV program and is challenging for playing time at third base on the varsity team. “Rheagan is a great kid,” NOHS coach Eric Ballerstedt said. “She is going to be a big help to us before the year is over.” Riggs began playing softball when she was 6 years-old and has played several positions including pitcher and shortstop before settling in at third base. “Third base is definitely my favorite spot,” Riggs said. “You get a lot of action.” Her biggest adjustment so far has not been the level of play, but the weather. “I am not a good cold weather player, but I guess I am going to have to get used to it.” School: An A student, her favorite subjects are math and science.  Other activities: When not playing softball, Riggs likes to surf on the Internet and hang out with friends. Riggs lived in Texas for a time and her favorite team is the University of Texas Longhorns, which causes a bit of friction around the house with her parents being Texas A&M graduates. Favorite thing about softball: “I like playing in the tournaments in the summer when you are there all day and playing a lot of games,” Riggs said. “In the breaks, you get to hang out and make really good friends.”
