Anchorage marathon is official

I signed up for the Mayor’s Marathon in Anchorage, Alaska yesterday. No turning back now. I’ve paid my $70 for my race t-shirt that I’ll receive when I cross the finish line (race shirts are expensive because they come with lots of smiles when you wear them weeks after the race and remember what you did, and where you went to get them).

The Oldham County Grand Slam starts with the Roman Road 5K May 30. Have you signed up? Go ahead and register. It’ll get you mentally ready and motivated.

To register, go to  www.OCGrandSlam.com.

Hey, if I can sign up for a 26.2 mile Alaskan sweat-fest while running through a cajillion mosquitos and risk being chased and eaten by a grizzly, you can do the slam. Run or walk in all four races and you’ll get five shirts for the same price as I get for one stinking marathon shirt.

Here are the top five reasons to walk or run the Grand Slam:

• It’s something your whole family can enjoy together.

• It’s a chance to out run a cop and not get a ticket – there will be police officers competing.

• It’ll move you toward better health.

And the number one reason to participate in all four events? The additional long sleeved t-shirt that says “I ran the Slam!”
