American Legion sponsors four for state meeting

-A A +A

Four high school juniors were selected to attend Boys State and Girls State this year. Oldham County Post #39 of The American Legion sponsored both a boy and a girl from South Oldham and Oldham County High Schools. Representatives from OCHS are Jeremy Dodson and Molly Kate Stephens and from SOHS, Jacob Herold and Erika Laws. Both Boys State and Girls State started on June 8 and last for one week.

At Boys State and Girls State, all of the student citizens receive comprehensive training in the practical aspects of city and state government by actually performing the necessary functions themselves. In effect, the program creates a mythical 51st state and functions as such during the entire session. Every citizen is urged to become involved by campaigning for a city or state office. Above all he or she is expected to demonstrate the ability to live effectively with other Kentuckians as good citizens.

More information about Boys State can be found at the Kentucky Legion web site, kylegion.org, and about Girls State at the KY Legion Auxillary web site, kyamlegionaux.org.
