A number of Oldham County band students participated in a pinnacle experience for high school musicians as the 2008 Kentucky All-State Bands and Orchestra presented their concert performances Feb. 9 in Whitney Hall of the Kentucky Center for the Arts in Louisville. The All-State ensembles meet in conjunction with the annual In-Service Conference of the Kentucky Music Educators Association. Students are selected through a two-tiered audition process and come together during the conference for 2 1/2 days of rehearsals culminating in their concert performances. The conductor of the All-State Symphonic Band was Linda Moorhouse from Louisiana State University. J. Steven Moore from Colorado State University conducted the All-State Concert Band, and the All-State Symphonic Orchestra was conducted by Allen Tinkham of the Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra. Oldham County High School band students performing in the All-State ensembles: Dan Beilman (orchestra-bassoon); Ashley Jackson (symphonic band-flute); Matthew Lund (symphonic band-alto saxophone); McKenna Hynes (orchestra-horn); Lauren Simpson (concert band-flute); Jon Louden (symphonic band-trumpet); Lauren Cannady (orchestra-flute); Chris Dye (concert band-euphonium).
