-A A +A

Oldham students earned 13 top 5 finishes at the regional academic team competition, including nine individuals from all three high schools and the Future Problem Solving and Quick Recall teams from North Oldham High, all of whom move on to state.

Senior David Glenn led NOHS to an overall second-place team finish, earning the district’s only first place award through his win in mathematics. This is Glenn’s second year as regional champion in mathematics. Last year, he finished fourth at state.

North’s runner-up position was aided by Chris Chen (second, science), Glenn (fourth, science), Rachel Huck (second, written composition), Will Strench (second, social studies), Maggie Foster (fourth, social studies) and second-place finishes in Future Problem Solving and Quick Recall.

The district’s other high schools were also well-represented, including a fifth-place team finish for Oldham County High and seventh for South Oldham High.

From OCHS, Rohan Despande and Austin Smith scored big points with second place finishes in mathematics and language arts, respectively. Rachel Curtis placed fifth in language arts for the school. The quick recall team finished fourth, but does not advance to state.

OCHS was also the recipient of the competition’s Hume Sportsmanship Award.

Sydney Allen scored South’s only top five finish of the competition, with a third place in arts and humanities.

State competition is March 15-17 in Louisville.
